Ryan Smart is a Director. He specializes in the calculation of economic damages, reasonable royalties, and lost profits in patent infringement, antitrust, tortious interference, and trade secret misappropriation litigation. Mr. Smart has testified as an expert witness in patent infringement litigation at U.S. District Court and has attended several trials in the Eastern District of Texas, as well as an arbitration in the United Kingdom involving the valuation of commercial real estate. He also assists clients with due diligence efforts related to litigation funding and intellectual property valuation.
Outside of litigation, Mr. Smart has conducted economic research for clients in the sports and entertainment industries, including a study of the economic impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to joining Epsilon Economics, Mr. Smart provided economic consulting services at Micronomics, Inc. He also worked on research and development projects at the California Energy Commission and performed research and analysis for Econoday, Inc., a provider of economic data to the Wall Street Journal, Nasdaq, and others.
Mr. Smart received a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Economics and Slavic Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was the recipient of the Randell Magee Award.
