John Plumpe

John Plumpe is a Managing Director and specializes in the economic aspects of intellectual property. John provides expert witness services regarding damages and valuation in cases involving trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and other forms of intellectual property. He works with plaintiffs and defendants in the analysis and reporting of lost profits, defendant's profits, reasonable royalties, and other forms of damages and monetary relief in intellectual property infringement, breach of contract, and related matters. John has testified at trial in federal district court, in deposition, and in arbitration on issues including intellectual property damages, breach of contract damages, false advertising damages, licensing, and business valuation. 

John consults on engagements involving the valuation of businesses and intellectual property for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, collateralization, licensing transactions, bankruptcy and tax purposes. In addition, he assists clients in developing and implementing strategies and processes for managing and leveraging their intellectual property portfolios. 

John is active in the International Trademark Association, and has held leadership positions within INTA for many years. In addition, John was appointed to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Expert Consultative Group on Valuation of Intangible Assets.

John holds an MBA, with Honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and an MS and BS, with Honors, in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
